We came to know the Konya family when they moved to a cottage close to us in Bucklebury over thirty years ago. The friendship was quickly cemented due in no small part by the mutual appreciation of motorbikes by Stephen and our daughter Anna. Allan was a man of many talents and wide interests. The more our friendship developed this breadth of his knowledge became increasingly impressive, absorbing so many different aspects of his work and life. Allan took a delight in his holidays in Greece where both he and Sonia Fell in love with Greek food, bringing home various recipes that they served to us. Allan also wrote a fascinating book about Greece with beautiful photographs. Allan loved birds both outside and his constant companions flying around his office, often regaling us with their latest adventures (or misadventures). According to Sonia, Allan had recently taken up an interest in cooking, possibly inspired by the lovely Nigella Lawson!!!! Allan was well known as a highly talented architect, but on a personal level, we knew him as a quiet, dignified, and gentle man and a generous host. We shall miss him, John and Darya.
